My kid got cut (and I’m furious)

This is that time of year (November) where basketball tryouts occur. For some, it’s elation. For others, it’s great disappointment.

For kids, who fell short of making team, it’s not over! In fact, it may be a blessing in disguise. Why? If it’s close as to whether your kid should be on team, chances are s/he needs lots of skill development.

No problem! Instead of going to “school” basketball practice, why not have your kid go to their “own” basketball practice.

At their “own” basketball practice, here’s what that looks like:

  • Daily ball handling, shooting, offensive moves and defensive individual work.
  • Weekly professional instruction (private, group or camps).
  • Open basketball play (at YMCA, churches, and playgrounds).
  • Join recreational basketball team and play in weekly games.
  • Engage in basketball video study (via YouTube).

If your kid goes to their “own” practices (as stated above), your kid will see dramatic improvement. In addition, your kid will significantly improve their chances of making “school” team next year!

In summary, if your kid got cut, it’s NOT over! It’s never over until your kid decides it’s over (not some other coach)!
